This has to be one of the best Gibson colors of all time and it looks totally killer on this SG Special! This color was only offered for a short run, and it is really cool. "Inverness Green" looks very similar to a Pelham Blue that has toned with age-meaning the clear coat has yellowed causing the blue to turn green in appearance. Somewhat hard to capture the true chroma value-there is a lot of metallic in the paint that reflects and makes for a stunning visual experience, especially when the light angle changes with movement. This 2021 SG Special model was produced at the Gibson factory in Nashville, Tennessee U.S.A. The guitar is 100% original and in excellent condition. It has been professionally set up and it is ready to go, it needs nothing.
The body is the familiar SG silhouette with double cutaways and front and rear beveled edges. The Inverness Green finish glows in the light with the metallic shimmering beautifully. The body lines are crisp and clean. The guitar features a set-neck design and the neck joint is an excellent fitment.
The neck is super straight and smooth as silk. The neck, back and sides of the headstock are finished in matching Inverness Green. The neck has a vintage C-shape profile and measures .810" at the 1st fret and .920" at the 12th fret. The neck is really nice and wide for an excellent string spacing-it measures 1.73" wide at the nut. The tuners turn smoothly and they function perfectly. There is a very small area of slight discoloration on the backside of the headstock-see photos. The headstock and logo display excellent. The rosewood fingerboard is clean and super-smooth. The frets are like new condition and this is one of the last Gibsons to roll out of the factory with the fret nibs, which were discontinued shortly after. The SG Special model features binding on the sides of the neck, and the binding on this one is clean and very nice. The action is set low for an easy playing experience. The string height measures .010" at the 1st fret and .050" at the 12th fret for a perfect relief. The guitar plays lights out up and down the neck-it feels awesome everywhere.
The P-90 pickups both have an excellent signal and prefect balance. The bridge position measure 7.89 ohms and the neck position measures 7.90 ohms. That's an impressive consistency. The tone is pure vintage P-90: the bridge position provides the bright, biting brilliance and it really growls with amp volume-the neck is a warm and woody full tone that works vey well with solos. The guitar screams bloody murder with any quality tube amp cranked. The controls all function smoothly and quietly. The wraparound bridge provides the ultimate in sustain and resonance. The pickguard is clean and striking and has the early '61-style insert between the neck pickup and the end of the neck.
The guitar is super fun to play and perfect for on-stage, recording in the studio or wherever you need to be to write songs. It is very comfortable and only weighs 6.68 lbs. so you can forget all about neck or back pain with this one-you can play it all day and night and still feel fresh as a flower.
