Here’s a really nice 2011 Fender AVRI ‘62 Jazz Bass in original Olympic White finish.
This bass was made at the Fender factory in Corona California USA and features the earlier style stacked (concentric) controls for individual volume and tone and independent pickup level controls-just like the original Jazz Bass design from 1960-1962.
The bass is all original and super solid.
The finish has aged or ‘toned’ to a nice mellow creme hue. There is handling evidence on the front, sides and back-mostly minor normal playing stuff-see photos. There are a few very small chips in the finish along the edges. The top horn is slightly brighter in some lighting. Overall it looks killer and certainly has a light “player-wear” vintage vibe. The neck joint is solid. There is a cosmetic line in the finish on the inside treble horn. The joint does not flex and the bass stays in tune very well. The back of the neck is clean and smooth The neck is straight. The neck profile is typical vintage jazz bass shaped: it measures .838” deep at the 1st fret and .970” deep at the 12th fret.
The tuners are the original “reverse” units and function perfectly. The headstock displays nicely with a minor line mark above the G string tuner bushing-see photos. The logo is the vintage pre-CBS “electric bass” earlier style and has a few small flecks. These decals were applied on top of the finish-just like the originals-so they are prone to damage. That being said-this one is actually in very good shape.
The nut measures 1 1/2” wide. The rosewood fingerboard has been cleaned and oiled and has a nice distinctive grain-see photos. The frets have been professionally leveled, crowned and polished and appear close to new condition-see photos. The bass plays great up and down the fingerboard with a great attack and easy pressure. The string height is currently .010” at the 1st fret and .100” at the 12th fret. The bridge is fully adjustable if you wish to lower or raise the action.
The pickups have a string signal and compliment each other perfectly with a smooth low end and punchy bright mid/high. The neck pickup measures 6.89 ohms and the bridge measures 7.14 ohms. The electronics all function smoothly and quietly. The bridge saddles are clean (see photos) and very nice. The bridge cover is included and it is easily removed if you prefer that. These basses did not come with a neck pickup cover from the factory but the pickguard does have the holes if you choose to add one. The body is not drilled for these holes-but it is a simple modification if you want to complete the vintage look of the original jazz bass.
This bass weighs 9.51 lbs. and the offset body design makes it a nice comfortable playing experience whether on a strap or in your lap.
The original brown hardcase is included and it is in good condition.
This era of vintage Reissue is some of the best Fender Jazz Basses ever to come out of the factory, since the original early 60’s. This was right before the custom shop began to offer mass production of these basses. The attention to detail and fitment is closer to custom shop specs than the current reissue series.
This bass is ready to play and needs nothing.
