2010 Dan Armstrong Replica
2010 Dan Armstrong Replica
Here is a replica of an Ampeg Dan Armstrong guitar. I believe this guitar was made in 2010 and there are no markings or import codes so I do not know where it was constructed. It is quality, and it looks and sounds killer. It has been professionally set up and it is ready to go-it needs nothing. It screams: "Hold my beer."
The body is lucite just like the originals. It has a couple of light line scratches on the back that may be able to disappear if buffed correctly. The see-through double cutaway is faithful to the original version and the woodgrain pickguard includes "Ampeg Dan Armstrong" The body has a great shine to it-not overly reflective but glossy like glass. It's really good looking. The neck is a bolt on type and it is straight and smooth. The finish on the neck is very thins and some type of satin finish. The neck profile is similar to a vintage-C and the girth measures .852" at the 1st fret and .923" at the 12th fret. The nut measures 1.66" wide. The tuners all function smoothly and the headstock displays very clean and nice. The rosewood fingerboard is super thick and has a nice soft feel. The frets look brand new with zero wear. They have a nice height and I would describe them as semi-jumbo in width. The action is set up very low and the guitar just shreds. It plays easy and fast all over the fretboard. The string height is currently .010" at the 1st fret and .040" at the 12th fret. The bridge is adjustable so you can raise it or even lower it down more if desired. The fingerboard is flat like a modern guitar, and it is super comfortable.
The pickup is some type of Gibson-style hum bucker with internal magnets, and it is quality. It has an excellent signal and measures 15.63 ohms. The controls all function: volume and tone plus and the toggle acts as a kill switch. The tone is beefy and hot. It is thick and heavy for rhythm chords and slides and has a sizzling lead edge.
The bridge is fully adjustable and functions as designed. Lightweight it ain't. The guitar weighs 9.77 lbs-so it's still lighter than most Les Paul Customs.
If you want to rock out-you probably need to buy this guitar now.
