Here’s a great looking vintage 1990 Gibson ES-335-TD "DOT" model in its original tobacco sunburst finish. This guitar was made on Monday April 16th 1990 at the Gibson factory in Nashville Tennessee, U.S.A.
This guitar is beautiful and in very clean condition, and the finish and components are all original.
The body is solid with no rattles or creaks or any other funny business. The original sunburst finish has a perfect vintage gloss just like a 50’s or 60’s vintage Gibson. The finish is translucent in the center and you can see some of the maple woodgrain. The backside is just as clean and the binding is one excellent shape throughout. There is a line check in the clear coat on the side-inside the top horn. The neck is mahogany and the neck joint is solid with an excellent fitment. The neck has a slim C profile and has the desirable 1 11/16” wide nut. It feels great and it is smooth and straight as an arrow. The neck depth measures .763” deep at the 1st fret and .856” deep at the 12th fret. The headstock had a small line crack and has been professionally repaired. But you would never know it. You can not see where the repair was-even with a black light. The vintage-style “stinger” looks both great and correct. I did see the headstock before it was repaired and it was a minor seam that went back together with zero filler. It was not a break through to the face-just a minor cosmetic, only on the backside. The headstock veneer was not damaged and it displays very nicely-along with the logo and inlay. The tuners are the original Grover nickel units which function perfectly and the guitar stays in tune. The string height is set low for a fast and very easy playing action. The bridge is fully adjustable so if you prefer a higher action you can easily raise it. Currently, the string height measures .010” at the 1st fret and .045” at the 12th fret. The rosewood fingerboard is super clean and has a beautiful warm grain-see photos. The frets have been dressed and polished and appear near-new condition-see photos. The guitar plays like butter up and down the fingerboard with no dead spots anywhere. It’s a great player and you can pull bends everywhere. The pickups both have an excellent signal. The neck measures 7.14 ohms and the bridge position measures 8.85 ohms. The pickups are original to the guitar, the neck pickup is a Tim Shaw patent number and the bridge is a Bill Lawrence HB-L. There is a date of April 17, 1990 ink-stamped below the bridge pickup on the block. The controls all work smoothly and quietly. The bridge and tailpiece are both nickel and in excellent condition. Currently, the strings are top-wrapped for an easy feel.
This Guitar is a lot of fun to play. It doesn’t weigh very much even though it’s a big Hollow body. It checks in at only 8.88lbs.
It comes with original brown Gibson hard case with the cool pink, furry interior and cover slip. Also included is the owner's manual and the warranty card which shows the guitar being sold in 1990. The case is nice and clean with one latch missing-the rest are present and it functions just fine
The guitar is professionally set up and ready to go. It needs nothing.
