Ahh yes! One of my favorite Gibson guitars of all time: 1981 Les Paul Custom in Alpine White finish. This color just kills on a Les Paul Custom. That creamy white color is just delicious! I have one in my personal collection just like it-well, not as clean but the same model. Noteworthy players include Randy Rhodes, The Edge, Jimmy Page, Mick Ronson, Eddie Van Halen, Dave Grohl, Mike Campbell and John Geery. This example is in EXCELLENT condition and super clean. It comes with original Owner's manual AND the Gibson Warranty paper that has never been filled out...how cool is that? It is 100% original including the highly coveted Tim Shaw pickups. The guitar was produced at the Gibson factory in Nashville Tennessee, U.S.A. on a Thursday- March 19th 1981. It is solid with no cracks, repairs or funny business. It is set up and ready to play-it needs nothing.
The body is clean with just a minimal evidence of light handling. The finish is very nice and shines like a grand piano-very elegant. The gold hardware shows a minimal amount of patina-just enough to not look brand new. The sides and back are just as clean-see photos. The neck joint is solid with no issues and an excellent fitment.
The neck itself is straight and very smooth. It has a medium thick slim-C profile. The nut width measures 1 11/16" wide at the nut. The neck depth measures .835" at the 1st fret and 1.030" at the 12th fret! It's totally killer. The binding is super clean throughout. The gold tuners function smoothly. The headstock and logo display excellent. The ebony fingerboard is clean and smooth as silk. The frets retain their nibs and look near new-condition-see photos. They are crisp and super clean. The action is low for an easy playing experience. The string height is .010" at the 1st fret and .040" at the 12th fret. This Custom plays like butter! It is one of the best players we've ever seen.
The pickups both have an excellent signal and balance extremely well. The neck output is 7.52 ohms and the bridge measures 7.40 ohms. The controls all function smoothly and quietly. The potentiometers date to 21st and 27th week of 1981. Pickguard is nice and flat-and the bracket is solid. Bridge and tailpiece are fully functional and clean. The tone is that unmistakable Les Paul Custom growl with incredible attack and richness.
This is maybe the cleanest pre-1985 Les Paul Custom in Alpine White we've seen. It would make a great gift for that special someone in your life that NEEDS a white Les Paul Custom. Comes complete with original Gibson Hardcase. You know what to do.
