Here's a really clean and 100% original Fender Precision Bass. The bass was produced at the original Fender factory in Fullerton California, U.S.A. The bass is a one-owner and vern clean and well taken care of. It has been professionally set up and needs nothing-it is ready to play.
The body features the classic Precision Bass shape that has been the same since 1957. The front and rear contours are nice and crisp. The Black finish is glossy and deep and in very good condition. The pickguard is nice and flat with no cracks or issues. Both chrome guards are in place and add a nice touch of class. There is minor handling evidence here and there in the finish, overall the bass presents very nicely-see photos. The neck slot has various Fender inspection stamps and a serial number sticker that matches the neck decal. The serial number on the decals suggest a build date of 1979-but Fender over produced these decals for a couple of years in a row, so it is not uncommon to see earlier numbers on an instrument that was actually completed a couple of years later. This bass is a case in point. Everything is totally original, and the potentiometers date to early 1981-as you can see for yourself in the photos. So I would identify this as a 1981 and lots of people will tell you that it is a 1979 because of the serial number. At any rate, It does feature more appointments from 1979 than 1981 but I'm not going to worry either way.
The neck itself is straight and smooth. The truss rod functions fine. The neck has the classic vintage C profile and feels great. The neck measures 1.66" wide at the nut-a bit wider than the typical P-Bass. It is close to 1 11/16" wide. The neck depth measures .871" deep at the 1st fret and .953" at the 12th fret. The tuners all function smoothly and the bass stays in tune excellent. The headstock and decal display excellent. There is some really cool line checking in the clear coat on the face of the headstock. This is the perfect kind of checking in the lacquer that is quintessential Vintage. The maple fingerboard is squeaky clean. The frets have been professionally leveled crowned and polished and appear crisp and bright-see photos. The action is fairly low and the bass plays like butter. The string height at the 1st fret is .010" and .050" at the12th fret. Of course the bridge is fully adjustable and you can easily raise the action if you prefer that. As it is, it plays with a very soft touch and is easy. It plays great up and down the fingerboard and has a good response everywhere with no dead spots whatsoever.
The tone is classic Precision Bass: full, rumbling tone with no excuses. The original pickups have an excellent signal and measure 10.94 Ohms. The potentiometers function smoothly and quietly. They are original and have a date code of 1981. The bridge is clean and fully functional.
The bass feels great ands an excellent balance. It comes with the original Tweed Hardcase-which the owner received with the bass when he purchased it new. It is in excellent shape.
