If you like the beauty of natural wood and you also like vintage Fender bass guitars, this one is for you! Behold the spectacle: A super-clean vintage Precision Bass with original Bird's Eye-figured body. Produced at the original Fender factory in Fullerton California, U.S.A. in 1976, this bass has been extremely well-kept its entire life. It is 100% original with the exception of the brass nut. The bass has been professionally set up and is ready to go-it needs nothing.
The body is super clean with crisp lines and nice contours. The finish is clean and with a nice gloss. The woodgrain has a beautiful contrast and the Bird's-Eye figuring on the front and back is really cool-see photos. There is a touch of line checking on the backside-visible only at certain angles and it is really cool looking-see photos. The clear finish is very clean and glows nicely. The neck joint is an excellent fitment. In the neck slot there a couple of Fender employees' inspection stamps and two names: Sage & A. Rodriguez which are both well-known in the vintage Fender employee nerd world.
The neck itself is straight and smooth with the typical poly clear finish on the backside and fingerboard, and lacquer on the headstock. The neck has a vintage C-shape profile and measures 1.51" wide at the nut. The neck depth measures .875" deep at the 1st fret and .989" at the 12th fret. It has a nice beefy feel. The tuners all function smoothly and the bass stays in tune perfectly. The headstock and old-style logo display excellent and the clear lacquer has checked very nicely; the kind of look only a vintage guitar can do right. The checking only shows up at a certain angle-see photos. The nut has been replaced with a quality brass version for added sustain and resonance. The job was done professionally and if you don't like it you can easily swap it back to an original style. The fingerboard is super clean-as are the frets. The frets have minimal wear-see photos. They are shiny and crisp. The bass has a low/medium action that is easy to play with a solid tonal response. The string height measures .010" at the 1st fret and .095" at the 12th fret. The bass plays great up and down the fingerboard with no dead spots.
The tone is the classic P-Bass: thundering low end with clarity and incredible compression-especially for a maple fingerboard. The pickups have an excellent signal and measure 10.67 Ohms. The volume and tone controls operate smoothly and quietly. The original CTS potentiometers date to the 18th week of 1976. The bridge is super clean and fully functional.
The bass is a lot of fun to play and has an excellent balance. It sounds killer and is perfect for studio work, on stage or even lounging around the house, working out. It's everything you'd want in a P-bass.
Comes with a clean mid/late 70's Fender Hardcase
