This is a very early example of a Vintage 1974 Fender Telecaster Deluxe model featuring the new-for-then Seth Lover designed "Wide Range" humbucker pickups and a Stratocaster neck! This guitar was produced at the original Fender factory in Fullerton California, U.S.A. This guitar is 100% original including its awesome Black finish. It has a nice vintage vibe complete with patina. The guitar has been professionally set up and it is ready to go-it needs nothing.
The body is the familiar Telecaster slab shape. The pickguard is nice and flat and fits great. There is some pick line wear above the pickups-adds to the vintage vibe! The Black finish looks really nice and dark especially viewed at a direct 90 degree angle. From a shallower angle-you can see tons of handling evidence, including minute pecks and lines all over everywhere-see photos ( I specifically took additional photos to show this)... There is some arm rub wear along the top edge. There is more rub wear on the backside, in the belly relief and also along the bottom edge of the side of the guitar-see photos. The neck slot is a good fitment and the neck angle is great.
The neck itself is smooth and straight. The neck has a vintage C-shape profile. The neck measures 1.60" wide at the nut and the neck depth measures .861" deep at the 1st fret and .892" deep at the 12th fret. The truss rod functions smoothly. The headstock and logo display excellent. The maple fingerboard is in good condition. The frets have been professionally leveled, crowned and polished and appear very nice and crisp-see photos. The action is set low for a fast and easy playing experience. The string height measures .010" at the 1st fret and .055" at the 12th fret. It plays lights out up and down the fingerboard with zero dead spots... It plays and feels just like a Stratocaster.
The pickups are the highly coveted "Wide Range" humbuckers designed by Seth Lover. Although Fender really wanted a guitar that sounded like a Les Paul (and played like a Stratocaster and looked like a Telecaster) Seth Lover designed these pickups with wide bobbins for a warmth and clarity without the muddy qualities that humbuckers sometimes have. These pickups sound distinctively clear, with a "bell" tone and brilliant, biting highs and a warm, rich bass. The pickups both have an excellent signal and balance. The neck position measures 10.02 ohms and the bridge position measures 10.29 ohms. The wiring harness is in excellent condition. The potentiometers date to the 46th week of 1973 and the 3rd week of 1974. The pickups have production ink stamps "190775" and the other one ilooks like "190735". The potentiometers turn smoothly and quietly. The bridge and saddles are functional and show mild patina .
The guitar is lots of fun to play and comfortable-it only weighs 8.10 lbs. The pickups offer up a lot of diffract tonal variations and it sounds absolutely killer with any quality tube amp cranked up.
Comes with an original-style used hard case that has a black interior.
