So many winners used the Rickenbacker 4001, would you like to be one too? I think you would.
This vintage bass was produced at the Rickenbacker factory located in Santa Ana California, U.S.A. in 1973. The bass is a really solid one-owner unit and it has been well-cared for its entire life. The bass is free of any cracks repairs or other funny business. It is 100% original and has been professionally set up. It needs nothing-it is ready to play.
The body is clean and crisp with various signs of light handling-see photos. The finish is nice and bright and dare I say it glows? You get the idea. The red is strong and bright-looks killer. The binding is clean, as is the pickguard. The chrome hardware displays a slight amount of patina that adds to the vintage vibe nicely. The Bass is a neck-through design, meaning the neck extends all of the way through the body for superior resonance and sustain. The neck angle is therefore-excellent.
The neck itself is of course straight and smooth. The neck profile is a typical vintage C-shape and measures 1.69" wide at the nut. The neck depth measures .919" deep at the 1st fret and .922" at the 12th fret. The original Grover tuners all function smoothly and the bass holds tune perfectly. The headstock and logo display excellent. The rosewood fretboard is clean and shiny and the distinctive cursed pearled triangle position markers look killer. The frets have been professionally dressed: leveled, crowned and polished and appear like new condition with excellent height. The bass has always had flat wound strings on it, and does so now. The action is low and the bass plays easily with a light touch. The string height is .010" at the 1st fret and .075" at the 12th fret. Of course you can raise or lower the height with the bridge if you should choose to. The bass plays great up and down the fingerboard with zero dead spots... plays like butter.
The tone is classic Rickenbacker: It ranges from bright and punchy to warm and full. It is very versatile and sounds perfect. The pickups both have a clear strong signal. The neck pickup measures 7.17 ohms and the bridge pickup measures 6.62 ohms. The volume and tone controls all function smoothly and quietly. The Potentiometers date the instrument to the 30th week of 1973. There is some writing on the inside of the control cavity by previous owner. The bridge and tailpiece function normally and the bass plays great with no rattles, creaks or other weirdness.
The bass balances really nicely and feels great on a strap or in your lap. The bass weighs just a touch over 9lbs. so it is comfortable and easy to wield. The versatility of the bass makes it great for studio, songwriting, on stage or even couch jamming scenarios. Hard to find a clean one-owner vintage Rickenbacker 4001 in this awesome finish and condition. You'll know what to do.
Comes with a decent aftermarket hardcase.
