Here is a great vintage 1972 Fender Telecaster at an excellent price point. The guitar plays sounds and looks great! The guitar was produced in 1972 at the original Fender factory in Fullerton, California U.S.A. There are modifications that effect originality, however, the guitar retains the look feel and sound of a vintage Telecaster with a killer Daphne Blue finish and vintage vibe. The body and neck both retain several well-known Fender employee inspection ink stamps. The guitar has been professionally set up and it is ready to go-it needs nothing.
The body is the familiar single cutaway telecaster silhouette with slab body-the same design that has endured since 1952 (some would argue 1948) and why mess with perfection? The body has been refinished in Daphne Blue-one of the best colors on a Telecaster or any Fender guitar for that matter. The finish has line checking all over-it definitely has the vintage vibe! There is handling evidence along with some nicks and other typical signs of use. The bridge pickup cavity has an employee inspection ink stamp "VEGA" clearly legible. The neck pickup cavity was routed out at some point for a humbucker pickup, however, the original style neck pickup is back in place now. The output jack plate has been changed to an easier to deal with Gibson-style 4-screw version. The neck joint is solid and an excellent fitment. The neck slot has several inspection marks that are still legible including the ubiquitous "T. Chambers" ink stamp.
The neck itself is smooth and straight and has that awesome vintage Fender feel. The date stamp on the end is very faded and difficult to read. It appears to be 3 JUN 72 B. The backside of the neck has an inspection ink stamp that reads "Krausfeldt" -another well-known Fender employee from the 70-72 time period. The truss rod turns easily and the neck is in really good condition. The profile is the familiar vintage-C shape with the standard B width. It measures 1.60" wide at the nut. The neck depth measures .815' at the 1st fret and .895" at the 12th fret. The original tuners all function smoothly and the guitar stays in tune well. The headstock and logo display excellent with just a touch of patina. The rosewood fingerboard is clean and has a really beautiful, high-contrast grain-see photos. The Rosewood fingerboard is fairly rare for this time period and this one has a really nice soft feel to it. I think it really compliments the Daphne Blue finish of the body and is one of the best combos ever offered. The frets are nice and tall and have been professionally leveled, crowned and polished and look and feel super crisp-see photos. The action is set low for an easy playing experience. Currently the string height is .010" at the 1st fret and .050" at the 12th fret. The Telecaster plays like butter up and down the fingerboard with no dead spots anywhere. The radius feels a bit flatter than a 1960's Telecaster-which is common for this era-especially with rosewood fingerboards. Most people find it to be more comfortable and easier to play-especially up high.
The pickups both have a good signal and are well balanced. The neck pickup measures 7.52 ohms and the bridge pickup measures 7.78 ohms. The neck pickup looks like a Fender AVRI unit with correct purple windings and cloth wires. The bridge pickup is a Seymour Duncan STL1-B Broadcaster unit. This pickup is an Alnico V high-output design which captures the early 1950's Twang that we all love. It has a fat, punchy and aggressive tone. The 3-way switch is original to the guitar and the potentiometers and tone capacitor have been replaced with quality components. The pickguard is nice and flat and fits nicely. The bridge is a Fender AVRI unit with correct stainless saddles and it is fully functional.
The guitar is lots of fun to play-it is very comfortable and lightweight. It weighs exactly 7.77 lbs. This would be an excellent guitar for playing out! It is equally at home in the studio or even on the couch. It's lots of fun and a great opportunity for you to get a vintage Fender Telecaster for less money than a Custom shop reissue-It's the real deal!
