Looking for something different? This is an incredibly rare Vintage 1968 Kustom K-200 B model Bass Guitar. The finish is the original Jet Black Gloss and it looks killer! This guitar was made at the original Kustom factory in Chanute Kansas, U.S.A. It is unmodified, all original and solid. It is set up and ready to go-it needs nothing.
The body is the familiar Kustom semi-hollow thinline with cat eye sound hole. The finish is nice and deep with a great shine. There are a few line checks in the lacquer and a couple on the backside near the neck joint. There are a couple of small chips also-see photos. The white pickguard is clean and very cool looking. The neck joint is solid. The metal coverplate that gets in the way of the truss rod is missing.
The neck itself is straight and smooth. The neck profile is best described as somewhat between a slim-C shape and a vintage D-shape. The neck depth measures 8.38" at the 1st fret and 9.94" deep at the 12th fret. The nut measures 1 9/16" wide. There is a small wear rub in the finish on the treble side of the neck from playing-see photos. The tuners all function smoothly. The headstock and logo display excellent. The rosewood fingerboard is clean and smooth. The frets are very clean and crisp and have just been polished. The action is fairly low for an easy playing experience. The string height measures .010" at the 1st fret and .080" at the 12th fret. The bass plays like butter up and down the fingerboard.
The pickups are the original DeArmond units and sound punchy and bright with an excellent signal. The bridge position measures 8.32 ohms and the neck measures 8.88 ohms. The controls all function smoothly. The potentiometers date to the 30th week of 1968-late July. The bridge is adjustable and clean.
The bass is very lightweight and lots of fun to play. It only weighs 7.82 lbs.-so it is lighter than most Stratocasters! The semi-hollow design means you can hear yourself just plinking on the couch or wherever. It's great for song-writing, live-music and recording situations.
This is a very rare and desirable color for one of these Kustom basses. Original hard case is included.
