Here is a guitar that really needs no introduction:  1968 Gibson Les Paul Custom model.  This is one of the first ones produced (during the late summer of 1968); with all of the key features that make these guitars so desirable: Patent sticker humbucker pickups, one-piece mahogany body with maple cap, one-piece mahogany neck with NO volute, straight-wall control cavity, and of course: the quintessential long neck tenon!  These guitars were produced to the 1959 Les Paul specs and shortly after the first few hundred were made, Gibson began changing these features to speed up production and cheapen costs (of course).  This one is super-rare, and 100% original down to its nylon saddles. No breaks, no cracks, no repairs, Just all-original glory.

The body is in excellent condition and the original black finish looks absolutely killer with light patina.  The binding has toned slightly to a yellow hue and looks great.  The backside of the guitar was sanded a bit through the finish-I assume the original owner tried to smooth out some wear in the finish.  It still looks rock & roll to me.  The neck joint is solid and the neck angle is perfect.

The neck itself is super-smooth and feels amazing.  The neck is straight and the russ rod functions smoothly.  This is the full-tilt, highly desirable Gibson full-on 1959 profile here.  It measures 1.70" wide at the nut.  The neck depth measures .875" at the 1st fret and 1.050" deep at the 12th fret.  The original waffle back tuners all function well and display lots of patina.  The gold plating has tons of patina.  The headstock and logo both display excellent with perfect mojo.  The ebony fingerboard is clean and very nice.  The frets are the original units and as you know-they are factory low "speed frets".  They have been professionally leveled crowned and polished and appear very clean and crisp-see photos.  The position markers display excellent.  The sting height is set low for an easy and fast playing experience.  The guitar plays and feels amazing.  The string height at the 1st fret measures .010" and measures .050" at the 12th fret.

Both pickups have an excellent signal.  The tone is exactly what you would dream of:  thick and resonant.   The bridge measures 7.40 ohms and the neck measures 7.30 ohms.  The controls all work smoothly and quietly.  Original Sprague capacitors are present.  The potentiometers date to the 32nd and 33rd week of 1968.  The original pickguard is clean and flat with no cracks.  The original Tune-o-matic bridge and tailpiece all function nicely.  The gold-plated hardware shows wear and patina consistently on the Humbucker covers, bridge, tailpiece and tuners.

The guitar weighs 10.16 lbs.  It plays great, sounds phenomenal and makes dinner for you.

The guitar comes with the original Gibson square case.
