1967 Fender Mustang Blue
1967 Fender Mustang Blue
Here's a really solid 1967 Fender Mustang in its original factory Blue finish for your consideration. This guitar was produced at the original Fender factory in Fullerton California, U.S.A. It retains all factory inspection ink stamps and date codes which range from September 1966 to April 1967. It is all-original with an era-correct cloth insulated ground wire added to the output jack. The wire can be easily removed and no permanent modifications would be visible if you wish to do that. The guitar has been professionally set up and is ready to go-it needs nothing.
The body is the early "slab-style" and the original Blue finish is in good condition with typical playing and handling evidence. The finish has toned to a slightly 'surf green' hue. You can see the degree of toning in the photos with the pickguard removed. It's a very 1960's color and is verified original. There are some small dimples and scratches-see photos. The backside is in about the same condition as the front. The neck joint is solid with no issues. The neck angle is perfect.
The neck has a factory ink stamp of September 1966 and several #4 employee inspection marks on the backside. The neck itself is super smooth and feels perfect-like a vintage 60's Fender neck should feel. There is a light shadow on the backside of the neck where the guitar was resting on a polishing cloth-no damage, just slightly lighter than the rest of the neck-see photos. The neck width is 1.60" wide and it has the classic vintage C-shaped profile. The neck depth measures .855" at the 1st fret and .925" at the 12th fret. The original tuners all function and the guitar stays in tune well. The G-string peg is slightly bent-but still functions fine. The headstock and logo display excellent.
The fingerboard is a beautiful Brazilian Rosewood with very nice high-contrast tight grain coloring. It is clean and smooth with a soft feel. The frets have been professionally leveled, crowned and polished and look near-new condition with an excellent height-see photos. The action is currently set low for a fast and easy playing experience. The bridge is fully adjustable so you can raise the action if you prefer that. The string height is currently .010" at the 1st fret and .050" at the 12th fret. The Mustang plays excellent up and down the fingerboard with no dead spots. It is a lot of fun to play. This one is the standard 24" scale.
The pickups have an excellent signal: the neck position measures 6.15 ohms and the bridge position measures 6.29 ohms. The pickups have a great balance with excellent volume and clarity. The switches both function nicely and the potentiometers work smoothly and quietly. The guitar has the classic vintage 60's Fender "bell" tone and brilliant chime. Sounds really good. Potentiometers date to the 42nd week of 1966. The harness is untounched and joints are all in excellent condition. As previously mentioned; a ground wire was added from the grounding plate to the negative terminal on the output jack. It is a clean professional job and looks perfect. It can easily be removed if you prefer. The pickguard is nice and flat. There is a small area in the pickguard near the front horn where a sticker was removed. It is not exactly discolored, but you can see some sort of faint shadow, although it is not real noticeable. The vibrato and bridge both function smoothly. The vibrato arm is long gone-but the set screw is present and you can easily buy a replacement if you wish.
The guitar only weighs 7.82 lbs so it is pretty lightweight. The offset body makes for a very comfortable playing position-it easy to wield and it feels great in your lap or on a strap.
Comes with a Fender 1970's hardcase.
