Here’s a really clean and solid vintage 1966 Gibson Melody Maker D-model.
This guitar was produced at the original Gibson factory in Kalamazoo Michigan USA back in 1966. No breaks, cracks or repairs.

This guitar is 100% original down to the original white strap pins! The Vibrola works perfectly and it plays really great.
Features a One-piece Honduran mahogany body with a one-piece Honduran mahogany neck. The fingerboard is Brazilian rosewood.
The slab-style body is sokie and the Transparent Cherry finish is super-sexy and has a nice gloss. Typical handling evidence here and there-presents as a very nice example of a well-cared for vintage guitar. The neck joint is solid and the neck itself is straight and smooth. The neck has a vintage C profile and measures .805” deep at the first fret and 1.032” at the 12th fret. The original tuners all function. The headstock and logo display excellent. The nut measures 1.58” wide. The action is set low for a fast and easy playing experience. The string height measures .010” at the 1st fret and .050” at the 12th fret. The fingerboard is clean and has a soft smooth feel. The frets have been leveled crowned and polished and appear in excellent condition at a nice tall height. The guitar plays great up and down the fingerboard with no dead spots. It is a lot of fun to play. The pickups both have an excellent signal and the tone is the classic Melody Maker “Bark and Growl“. The neck pup output measures 7.11 ohms and the bridge pup measures 7.05 ohms. The controls all function quietly and smoothly. The potentiometers are the original centralab units and date to the 32nd & 35th week of 1965. All Gibson references have a 700000 serial number as 1966-but this guitar could in fact be a late 1965 unit. It does have a very low 700000 serial so anything is possible. The ‘lightning bolt‘ wraparound bridge is clean and an excellent fit. You can put the strings through the wraparound bridge and bypass the vibrola if you want additional resonance and sustain and a bit more OOMPH to your tone. As previously stated-the vibrola works smoothly.
