Here is a stunning example of a vintage 1960 single-cutaway Gretsch 6122 Country Gentleman. This guitar was produced at the original Gretsch factory in Brooklyn New York, U.S.A. in 1960. The guitar is in excellent condition and really solid. The binding is super clean and free of any issues which seem to haunt so many vintage Gretsch guitars from this era. The finish glows and is nice and glossy. The guitar is completely original and has professionally had a neck reset-which is virtually impossible to detect. You can see a black line around the neck joint ONLY with a black light-it looks like the factory neck set. Without a blacklight, the entire area around the neck joint looks clean and original. It is a One-owner unit and has been sitting under the bed for a very long time-until now. The guitar was obvious very well-cared for and it has been set up and needs nothing-it is totally ready to rock!
The body is solid and free of any cracks, creaks or funny business. It feels nice and smooth all over. The top has some nice figuring in the woodgrain. The backside is super clean. It is a striking piece-see photos. The neck joint is solid and an excellent fitment. The neck angle is superb.
The neck itself is super straight and has a nice vintage C-profile. The neck measures 1.75" wide at the nut. The neck depth measures .851" at the 1st fret and it measures .974" at the 12th fret. The original tuners are smooth and the guitar stays in tune perfectly. The headstock and logo display excellent. The fingerboard is clean and smooth. The guitar has had flat wound strings on it its whole life so the frets look basically new. The action is super low for quick pickin' and the string height measures .010" at the 1st fret and .045" at the 12th fret. It plays great up and down the fingerboard with a super light touch.
The twin Filter'Tron pickups both have an excellent signal and high-clarity as you would expect. They provide a nice twang with smooth definition and a bit of sparkle. The guitar sounds great through any quality tube amp. The pickups measure 4.18 ohms in the bridge position and 4.58 ohms in the neck position-perfect for Filter'Trons. All of the electronics, potentiometers and switches function smoothly and quietly. The pickguard is nice and flat with the typical stress line around the screws. It is solid and a nice gold metallic color. The original Bigsby tailpiece functions smoothly. The gold hardware has some fade but is really in very good condition for one of these 65 year-old Gretsch pieces. Plenty of gold left to impress and dazzle.
