Here we have a 100% original vintage 1960 Fender Duo-Sonic guitar in Desert Sand finish. The guitar was produced at the original Fender factory in Fullerton California U.S.A. This Duo-Sonic features a slab-style body with a small pre-CBS headstock and "spaghetti logo". The fingerboard is Brazilian Rosewood. All solder joints are untouched and the harness is super nice. The guitar is solid and set up. It is ready to play and needs nothing.
The body has the familiar double cutaway silhouette associated with Music Master, Duo-Sonic, and later on-Mustang guitars. The Desert Sand finish is nice and exhibits typical handling evidence and patina. There are dings, impressions, checking and all other sorts of common honest wear all over the body-see photos. The neck joint is solid and and excellent fitment. The neck slot is clean and correct.
The neck is straight and smooth and feels really good. The pencil date on the end of the neck is "5-60" so it was completed in May, 1960. There is a factory employee written "C" inspection mark on the backside of the neck heel; along with the 2-punch inspection impressions. The neck profile is a soft C. The neck depth measures .796" at the 1st fret and 1.003 at the12th fret. The nut is 1.53" wide. The tuners all function and the guitar stays in tune perfectly. The headstock and logo display well with just a touch of patina. It is hard to see, but if you look really closely you can see a faint hint of letters that correspond with the string near the posts. The Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard is nice and dark and looks and feels great. There is minor fingernail wear on the first couple of frets on the treble side. The frets have been professionally leveled, crowned, cleaned and polished. They have a good height and appear crisp and ready to play. The string height is currently set at .010" at the 1st fret and .050" at the 12th fret. The guitar plays great up and down the fingerboard with a nice soft touch.
The pickups have an excellent signal and balance. Thence position measures 5.68 ohms and the bridge position measures 5.56 ohms. The guitar has that nice brilliant Fender chime along with the quintessential "bell" tone we all love. The pickups are the original black bobbin units. The harness is clean and retains the sheath between both pickups as well as the ever-elusive original 3-way switch. The controls function smoothly and quietly. They have the same date code: 19th week of 1960. The original paper-can capacitor is in excellent condition. The original 'parchment' pickguard is nice and flat and the metal shielding plate is intact. The original brown pickup covers are clean. The bridge is fully functional and the saddles are nice and crisp-see photos.
This Duo-Sonic is very lightweight-it only weighs 6.28 lbs. It is super comfortable and feels great on a strap orin your lap. It is lots of fun to play.
Comes with original Fender hardcase with tan exterior and Gold interior.
